11 injured in group clash in Bellary

BELLARY: Eleven persons were injured in a group clash between members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes that occurred in Kottur town in Kudligi taluk on Wednesday.

Additional Superintendent of Police D.C. Rajappa said a minor accident involving an autorickshaw and a cycle occurred on Tuesday and the matter was settled after the autorickshaw driver promised to pay damages to the cyclist.

On Tuesday, the cyclist, who came along with a few members of his community, meet the autorickshaw driver to collect the damages.

By then, a few people came in support of the autorickshaw driver. A group clash ensued and two persons suffered head injuries.

Out of danger

All the injured, who have been shifted to a hospital in Davangere for treatment, are said to be out of danger.

Kottur police have registered a case. Kudligi Deputy Superintendent of Police Girijapati and other officers visited the spot. A peace meeting will be held tomorrow.

Under control

The situation is under control. However, as a precautionary measure, additional forces have been deployed in the town, Dr. Rajappa said.
