Held on charge of conspiring to kidnap a girl

Raichur: Raichur police arrested Irfan Ali and four others, who are said to be natives of Jamnagar in Gujarat, on the charge of conspiring to kidnap a girl.

The police said the accused, who stayed in a hotel on Ashoka Road in the city, contacted Syed Mustak, a resident of Beroon Quilla in the city, and forced him to find an alliance for Ali. They repeatedly pressured Mustak to locate a girl and even said that they were ready to kidnap her to Jamnagar if she refused marriage, the police said.

On Monday, the police arrested the accused based on a complaint lodged by Mr. Mustak.

The City West police are investigating.

Killed

Devamma (18) died when a snake bit her when she was sleeping in her house at Araginamara Camp near Sindhanur town on Sunday. The Sindhanur Rural police have registered a case.

Arrested

The Raichur police arrested Hanumantha and Ashok on the charge of gambling in Mudgal town in Lingsugur taluk on Monday and recovered Rs. 430 from them. They have been remanded in judicial custody. Another accused, Chandrashekar, is at large. The Mudgal police have registered a case.

Fake note seized

The Raichur police on Monday arrested Prabhu, a native of Arkalgudda village in Deodurga taluk, and recovered a counterfeit note in the denomination of Rs. 50 from him while he was trying to use it at a restaurant at the Gunj Circle here to pay his bill. He has been remanded in judicial custody. The Market Yard police have registered a case.
