MYSORE: After starting an engineering college in Mauritius, JSS Mahavidyapeetha now has a presence in West Asia with the opening of JSS Academy in Dubai. JSS Mahavidyapeetha, which runs hundreds of educational institutions across the country, established JSS Academy in the Knowledge Village in Dubai on April 12 on a request from the large number of Indians in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for quality higher education for their children. JSS Academy has been established in partnership with Universal Knowledge Solutions, an institute of e-learning in West Asia with well-established learning centres in Lebanon, Jordan and the United Kingdom. The aim of JSS Academy is to provide opportunities for those who are working in the region to get higher education and specialised education through e-learning. "Though these courses are targeted to help most Indian families worldwide, these courses will also help people of other origins who are in need of higher education," a press statement from JSS Mahavidyapeetha here said. JSS Academy is also a Study Centre of Karnataka State Open University, Mysore. To start with, an M.Tech course in software engineering has been introduced this year. Indian Ambassador to the UAE Chandra Mohan Bhandari inaugurated the academy while Karnataka Minister for Higher Education D.H. Shankaramurthy inaugurated the Study Centre and the M.Tech course. Inaugurating the academy, Mr. Bhandari said, "In today's world, despite e-learning and other higher education possibilities, there is a need for well-founded basic education with good living conditions on the campus to enable children of Indian families spread over different countries to have proper education, balanced with Indian culture and values," the statement said.
