Fine double for Nachiket Damankar

BANGALORE: Nachiket Damankar claimed a fine double in the Mehul Sirur memorial junior badminton championship winning both the boys' under-10 singles and doubles titles at the Canara Union courts on Tuesday.

In the singles final, Nachiket defeated Suraj Shetty 21-8, 14-21, 22-20 and later partnered Suraj to win the doubles final. The pair beat Sudeep and Sankeerth 21-11, 21-6. Reshma Karthik bagged the girls' under-10 singles title beating Preethi Bhandurge 21-10, 21-5.

International, Jaseel P. Ismail presided and gave away the prizes.

Speed run

Speed Run, the popular drag event for cars and bikes, sponsored by Bharath Petroleum, will be held at Jakkur airfield on April 22 and 23. Narain Karthikeyan will be the star attraction.

Big win for KSCA XI

KSCA XI defeated the visiting Australian outfit, HK & HDCA XI by 10 wickets in the under-15 cricket match here on Tuesday. An unbeaten 61 by Suraj Sampath, which included 12 fours marked KSCA XI's facile win.

The scores: HK & HDCA XI 103 in 44.1 overs (Rajesh Singh four for 12) lost to KSCA XI 107 for no loss in 11.5 overs (Suraj Sampath 61 n.o.).

Body building contest

An India-Pakistan best physique competition will be conducted by the National Amateur Body Builders Federation at Raipur in May.

The Indian squad includes the following six contenders from Karnataka: K. Malleswara, M.V. Manjunath, Deepak Kaverappa, H. Krishnamurthy, Rizwan and K. Wilson.

Swimming camp

A short course learn-to-swim camp for children and adults will be conducted by the K.C. Reddy Swim Centre from April 22 to May 11. Those interested should contact the centre at Sadashivanagar Swimming Pool, Sadashivanagar, Bangalore (Phone no: 23349558).
