Special Correspondent

Sonia to tour State in the last week of April

CHENNAI: All-India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi will undertake a two-day election tour of the State in the last week of this month, while Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will campaign for Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) candidates in the first week of May.

Announcing this to newsmen here on Tuesday before beginning his election tour of the city in support of the DPA candidates, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president M. Krishnasswamy said the party's election manifesto would be released on Wednesday.

Travelling in an open van through Triplicane, Chepauk, Egmore and Mylapore Assembly constituencies in the city, Mr. Krishnasswamy appealed to people to vote out the "undemocratic and authoritarian" AIADMK government in the State.

He charged that Jayalalithaa had been violating all democratic norms.

Mr. Krishnasswamy who was accompanied by DMK volunteers and Congressmen addressed roadside meetings at many places.
