KADAPA: Congress Government took up irrigation projects to irrigate 1 crore acres in the State, as against provision for irrigating 1.05 crore acres since Independence, Rajampet MP A. Sai Prathap said on Tuesday. Addressing a Praja Patham gram sabha at Rasoolpalle in Chintakommadinne mandal, the MP said completion of Telugu Ganga, Galeru Nagari and Handri Neeva projects would make Kadapa district fertile by augmenting irrigation to 6.80 lakh acres. Galeru Nagari project would irrigate 86,000 acres in the district. Leakage in Buggavanka project was plugged with an outlay of Rs. 5 crores, he said.
Development despite debts
Though the State was steeped in debts to the tune of Rs. 60,000 crores, the Government was extending free power supply and waived power charge arrears of Rs. 1,200 crores, Mr. Sai Prathap pointed out. Houses would be built to all eligible beneficiaries under Indiramma scheme, irrespective of political party affiliations, he assured. The MP said he would to take up with Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy the sanction of compensation pending for land acquired for Buggavanka canals.
