Molestation of studentor alleged

  • Officials accused of trying to hush up incident
  • One of the two accused has been arrested, the other is said to be in Vijayawada
  • Collector seeks steps to ensure victim takes her exams

KADAPA: Collector G. Asok Kumar on Tuesday pulled up officials of A.P. Residential School for Girls at Chinna Chowk for failing to apprise higher-ups of molestation of a ninth class student and trying to hush up the incident.

Irresponsibility of school officials in complaining to authorities concerned about a serious incident was intolerable, particularly as they were supposed to be `guardians' of inmates, Mr. Kumar who visited the school said. He enquired with in-charge principal Ramaiah on the incident.

He asked Kadapa RDO Prabhakar Pillai if the two accused - principal's son Aswavardhana Reddy and lab technician's son Suresh -- were arrested and under which sections they were charged.

The RDO explained that Suresh was arrested and Aswavardhan Reddy was said to be in Vijayawada. He said school principal Sridevi was warned of stern action if she did not ensure return of her son.

    Instructions

The Collector directed steps to ensure that the victim wrote her ninth class examination so that an academic year was not lost. He instructed Deputy Director of Social Welfare R. Venugopala Rao to admit the victim in SSC in a social welfare girls hostel.

The Collector inspected lab technician Thulasamma's quarters. Mr. Kumar asked Mr. Rao to put up a complaint box in the residential school, examine it every month and hold bimonthly meetings with principals.

Mr. Asok Kumar told newsmen that the principal and the lab technician were suspended and case under Atrocities Against SC/STs (Prevention) Act was booked against the accused. He assured further action on receipt of an enquiry report from Joint Collector Kanthilal Dande. Kadapa MRO Nagaraju was also present.
