Three rail engines damaged in fire

Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR: In a major fire in the Gooty diesel shed, three diesel railway engines were burnt.

The fire broke out when welding work was in progress.

Waste oils used in railway engines below the rail engines under repair were not cleared as the contract workers were not turning up for duties, seeking higher wages.

The mechanics started work without clearing the inflammable material below the engines.

Sparks from the welding work ignited the fire in the waste oils and the fire spread to the two nearby engines within minutes.
