Special Correspondent

  • Rs. 50,000 ex gratia for kin of victims
  • In case of crop loss, compensation will be by way of input subsidy
  • Chilli, groundnut suffer heavy damage

HYDERABAD: Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao has announced a relief package for the families affected by the heavy rain on Sunday and Monday.

According to this, an ex gratia of Rs 50,000 will be paid under Apathbandu against each death during the rain, if the family enjoys eligibility under the scheme. If the family is ineligible, an equal amount will be released from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.

The Minister told The Hindu here on Tuesday that orders have been issued to district Collectors for payment of Rs. 1,500 for a fully damaged house and Rs. 750 for a partially damaged one. Release of rice, kerosene and other essential commodities has also been ordered in line with the existing guidelines.

    Revenue teams in action

Revenue teams have fanned out in the 17 districts which were battered by the rain and strong gales, to enumerate the extent of the crop damage.

Any crop found damaged beyond 50 per cent would be paid compensation by way of input subsidy, he said.

The Minister said chilli and groundnut crops, harvested and kept on kallams for drying, suffered heavy damage, apart from paddy and mango.

After being wet, the chilli lost colour and bulk. The Government would work out a package for these two crops too once the enumeration was completed.

Meanwhile, trough-caused rain continued over the State for the fourth consecutive day on Tuesday.

As a result, the day temperatures which remained above 40 degrees Celsius all these days at a number of places, fell by three to four degrees. Kadapa recorded the State's highest day temperature for the day at 37 degree C.

Salur received a rainfall of 3 cm and Kalingapatnam, Anakapalli, Gajapathinagaram, Tenali and Veeraghattam 2 cm each.
