Award for ICRISAT

incubator

HYDERABAD: The Centre has selected the Agri-Business Incubator (ABI) at the International Crop Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) for the National Award for the Best Technology Incubator 2005. It has been selected in recognition of the "excellent work done in promoting technology-based ventures in the agri-biotechnology sector".

A press release said the selection was communicated to Director-General William Dar recently. - Special Correspondent

Currency missing

from bank

ADONI: An amount of Rs 10 lakhs was found missing from a bank in Adoni on Tuesday. According to reports, Manager of Syndicate Bank at Old Bus Stand Prasad and the Assistant Manager Viswanath Setty withdrew Rs 22 lakhs from the cash chest for day's transaction. The Assistant Manager entrusted the job of counting the wads to sub-assistant Ezaz Ahmed, who reported missing of the currency after some time. The police were investigating the issue. - Staff Reporter

ANGRAU centres to

be strengthened

HYDERABAD: The Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University will strengthen its District Agricultural Advisory and Transfer of Technology and Krishi Vigyan Kendras by providing more funds for necessary inputs.

This was announced here on Tuesday by Vice-Chancellor S. Raghu Vardhan Reddy, presiding over the seventh State-level Coordination Committee meeting for DAATT Centres and KVKS for 2006-07.

According to a press release Dr. Reddy said he would fill vacancies by June. K. Chandrasekhara Rao, Director, Extension, presented a report. - Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Speaker K. R. Suresh Reddy called for a special orientation programme for journalists reporting proceedings of the Assembly. The Media Advisory Committee along with journalist unions could develop this module, the Speaker added.

He was speaking at a function organised by Hyderabad Union of Journalists on Tuesday. Mr. Reddy released the Media Diary 2006-07 prepared by the HUJ on the occasion. He also congratulated C. Vanaja, a freelance journalist who has been awarded the Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism (2006). - Staff Reporter

Medical teachers want

GO 19 kept in abeyance

HYDERABAD: The Government Medical Colleges Teaching Faculty Association has said that GO 19 providing for reservations to in-service candidates in post-graduate courses would affect merit as it was hasty and biased.

An emergency executive meeting of the association here recently supported the junior doctors and demanded that the GO be kept in abeyance this year. It called for condemnation of awarding grace marks when 1,780 students qualified for 900 PG seats. This decision was against MCI guidelines, M. Gouri Devi, chairperson, said in a statement. - Special Correspondent

TDP mulls legal

option: Kadiam

Sangareddy: Former Minister and senior TDP leader Kadiam Srihari on Tuesday said his party was considering legal action on the recent decision of the State Government to prosecute party legislators and on its alleged encouragement to factionalism. He was addressing the press at Gajwel. He condemned the murder of former TDP legislator Suryapratap Reddy.

Plea to scrap GO

HYDERABAD: The State Committee of CPI (M) has demanded withdrawal of GO 160 which curbs the powers of municipal councils and empowers the Government to privatise its own properties.

B. V. Raghavulu, party secretary, in a statement on Monday said the Government was not honouring its promises of allocating more funds and powers to local bodies. On the contrary it was seeking to curb their powers.
