Meet on containing water-borne diseases

NEW DELHI: Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shastri chaired a meeting on "Water and Vector Borne Diseases" at the Secretariat here on Tuesday. Senior officials of the Health Department, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Council, Delhi Jal Board and Railways were present.

After the meeting, Dr. Shastri announced that he had instructed the officials to take all necessary preventive action to check the spread of malaria, cholera and dengue in the Capital. He also instructed them to issue legal notices and challans to owners of buildings who do not take anti-larval measures.

AMU lecturer invited

to present paper

NEW DELHI: Upendra Choudhury, Lecturer in the Department of Political Science at Aligarh Muslim University, has been invited by Cleveland State University at Ohio to present a paper at a two-day international conference on "Fifty Years Beyond Bandung: The Linkages Between Asia, Africa and the Diaspora" beginning this Friday.

Dr. Choudhury, whose trip is being funded by the CSU, will speak on "The Bandung Spirit and the Future of the Third World". He also recently authored a book, "Nuclear Risk Reduction Measures in South Asia: Problems and Prospects".

New education

initiative in Noida

NEW DELHI: The Noida Authority and NIIT on Monday launched computer-assisted education in ten Government schools operating in the Capital's neighbouring township.

As part of this initiative, NIIT will use its vast education delivery expertise to teach computers and other subjects to students of Classes VI to VIII.

"The teaching-learning process requires high level of interactivity, which can only be provided by computers. Computer education not only helps raise the standards of learning in schools, it also increases the performance level of students in other subjects," said NIIT Director and Chief Operating Officer P. Rajendran.

Panel discussion on `competition law'

NEW DELHI: The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) is organising an hour-long panel discussion on "Competition Law" on Gyan Darshan II channel on April 25.

Competition Commission of India Additional Director-General G.R. Bhatia will answer phone-in queries from students and members from across the country during the interactive tele-conferencing session.

Students and members can dial the toll free No. 1800112345 to participate in the discussion. The programme will be organised by ICSI through Electronic Media Production Centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University.
