Encephalitis research centre for Gorakhpur

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Government has sanctioned Rs. 2.76 crores for setting up an encephalitis research centre in Gorakhpur Medical College.

The amount has been sanctioned for setting up a research centre in Gorakhpur which had been worst hit by the disease, an official release issued here said on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a treatment centre is also being set up in the Gorakhpur Medical College for treatment of those rendered partially handicapped due to the disease. In the first phase, arrangements would be made for treating 50 such children in this centre in which the State department concerned would impart training through multi-media and graphics, the release said adding that setting up vocational training centre for the disabled in Noida was also in the pipeline.

According to a survey conducted by a social welfare organisation around Gorakhpur it was found that a large number of people have been mentally and physically affected by encephalitis.-- PTI
