ADILABAD: Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Laxmaiah handed over cheques worth Rs. 5.13 crores as compensation to the 411 families hailing from villages in Nirmal division whose lands were submerged under the Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP). The issue of compensation was hanging fire since long.
Praja Patham
Mr. Laxmaiah was participating in the Praja Patham programme along with Panchayat Raj Minister J.C. Diwakar Reddy at Narsapur-G village in Nirmal division on Tuesday. The Minister laid foundation stones in the village for development works estimated at over Rs. 11 crores. Mr. Laxmaiah directed Collector R. Subba Rao to settle the compensation and rehabilitation issue of villages which are going to be submerged under the Suddavagu project near Bhainsa. He said around Rs. 13 crores has already been sanctioned for the purpose by the Government. Speaking at a public meeting, the Ministers said no Government had addressed the issue of compensation for submergence lands during the last 13 years. He also stressed on proper utilisation of the development programmes introduced by the State Government. The Ministers had earlier visited the Gnana Saraswati temple at Basar and later participated in the Praja Patham programme at Laxmanchanda mandal head quarter village.
