mini-bus services

KOCHI: The Greater Cochin Development Council has demanded mini-bus services connecting different parts of the city. In a release here, Mathew Paul, president of the organisation, said that this would in the long run reduce dependence of people on autorickshaws, which charge quite a high fare. — Staff Reporter

Physics workshop

KOCHI: The Department of Physics, Cusat, and the SPIE university chapter will jointly organise a physics workshop for school students who have passed class 10. The workshop will begin on June 5, the coordinator, M K Jayaraj, informed. For details, call 94461 27331. — Staff Reporter

Referendum held

KOCHI: A referendum was held among the employees of public sector general insurance companies across the country on Tuesday. There are seven associations competing for recognition among both class I and II officers. As for class III and IV section, nine unions are in the fray. — Staff Reporter

Memoranda submitted

KOCHI: The Kerala Action Force has submitted memoranda to the conveners of the LDF and UDF demanding that the education portfolio be handled by mainstream political parties which lead the coalition. Representatives of over 120 organisations have raised the demand through the memorandum. — Staff Reporter

Rebate for khadi

KOCHI: The Government has sanctioned 10 per cent rebate for khadi during the current financial year. An additional 10 per cent has been sanctioned as festival rebate. — Staff Reporter
