BANGALORE: The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC)'s Commuter Advisory and Facilitation Committee on April 23 will hold its first interactive meeting with people of Basaveshwaranagar and initiate the process of preparing a report on the programmes that need to taken up for upgrading the urban transport system under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. In the meeting, the committee, headed by Hemaraju, General Manager (Technical) of BMTC, will interact with the people. Suggestions given by the people will be incorporated in the report prepared by the committee. This meeting will be held in each of the BMTC's five zones. The first meeting will be held in the West Zone (Coordinator B.K. Satyanarayana - Ph: 9845847676). The next meeting will be held in the South Zone on April 28 at Padmanabhanagar (Coordinator Meera Mukund - Ph: 9886558853). The dates of the meeting in North Zone, East Zone and Central Zone are yet to be decided. The Advisory and Facilitation Committee in July 2005 was set up with a view to develop a rapport between the BMTC and its commuters. The committee, which includes members from different walks of life, conducts regular meetings to get feedback on BMTC services from the people. The committee resolves problems and grievances and also suggests corrective actions. The committee includes V.K. Somashekar and Jayashri Ravindra, both from Grahak Shakti; Ms. Meera Mukund from Abhyudhaya; Mahabhaleshwara Madhyastha of Karnataka Helen Keller Handicapped Association; D.K. Ravindranath, Deputy Director of Consumer Affairs; Mr. Satyanarayana of BNES Pre University College; R.L. Renu, a senior citizen; and Tessy Thomas. Chief Traffic Managers K.S. Vishwanath and Dastigir Sheriff and Senior Depot Manager, BMTC Depot No 13 N.K. Basavaraj represent the BMTC. The committee will shortly have a member representing BMTC drivers and conductors.
