Former Mayor dead

Thiruvananthapuram: The former Mayor R. Balakrishnan Nair passed away at a private hospital on Tuesday morning. He was 91. He was the Mayor of the City Corporation during 1953-54. He had worked along with Pattom Thanu Pillai and was Thiruvananthapuram district president of the Congress since its formation. The funeral was held at Thycaud crematorium in the evening. — Staff Reporter

Collector's directive

Thiruvananthapuram: District Collector N. Ayyappan has said that instructions will be given to arrest the officials who do not attend the training classes for election officials. An official release, quoting the District Collector, said returning officers had reported that several officials did not report for the training programme held on Tuesday. He appealed to all officials to attend the classes on Wednesday. Departmental action will also be initiated against those who do not report for the classes, he added. — Staff Reporter
