Japanese tourist alleges rape

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR : A Japanese woman has accused the manager of a guesthouse in Pushkar, a popular tourist destination in Rajasthan, of raping and robbing her of Rs. 54,000 during her visit to the town earlier this month. She claimed she was raped after being drugged.

The woman faxed her complaint from Agra to the Superintendent of Police of Ajmer late on Tuesday evening. The police have registered a first information report against four persons on charges of rape, cheating and breach of trust.

The police said they would obtain the victim's statement before making the arrests. The Japanese Embassy in New Delhi has been informed and a police team left for Agra — where the Japanese tourist is now staying — on Wednesday to record her statement. This is the third case of rape of a foreign tourist in Rajasthan within a year.
