MCH summer camps from April 25

HYDERABAD: The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) will organise annual summer coaching camps from April 25 to June 1 in 51 disciplines at 650 centres with about 670 coaches monitoring them, according to Sanjay Jaju, commissioner, MCH.

Briefing the media here on Wednesday, Jaju said that the whole objective behind the show was to inculcate the sports culture amongst even the poorest of the poor. Reminding that these camps obviously cannot produce champions in a short span of time, Jaju said MCH was determined to spot genuine talent and groom it into performing individuals.

SAAP awards

The Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh will introduce annual sports awards in the name of Alluri Sitaramaraju for `best male athlete' and Rani Rudramadevi for `best female athlete', according to G. Kamala Vardhana Rao, VC&MD, SAAP. These awards will be presented from 2004-05 besides 2005-06. The awardees will be richer by Rs. 1 lakh each.

The main criteria for the selection is consistency in Nationals, besides Olympics, World Championships, World Cup, Asian meets and Asian and the Commonwealth Games where at least 10 countries should have taken part. However, all those who figure in the list of Awards conferred by Government of India will not be considered.

Applications invited

The Government of India has invited applications for nominations to Dhyan Chand, Dronacharya, Rajiv Khel Ratna and Arjuna Awards for 2006, according to a press release. All eligible sportspersons may apply in the prescribed proforma in quadraduplicate and should be forwarded through the State Government. The forms are available at SAAP office and applications should reach it by May 15.

HPS Ramanthapur scores

HPS Ramanthapur scored a comfortable seven-wicket win over DAV Public School in the Maa Cable Challenge trophy sub-juniors cricket tournament here.

The scores: DAV Public School 63 (Ashrith three for 13) lost to HPS Ramanthapur 64 for three.

Samaritans High School 159 for four (Ashok Chowdhary 49, Madhukar Pillay 37) bt Nasr School 64 (Sunder four for 12).

Gati wins trophy

Gati recorded a 91-run win against Intelli Group in the final of the Champions Trophy corporate cricket tournament here.

Special prizes were given to Deepak (best batsman and wicketkeeper), Basha (best bowler) and Mohan Gandhi (best all-rounder).

The score: Gati 179 for three (Samson 65) bt Intelli Group 88.

Athletic meet

Hyderabad District Athletics Association will organise District athletic meet for boys and girls (under-20) at the Lal Bahadur Stadium on April 24 from 7.00 a.m. The State teams to take part in the AP State junior meet to be held later will be picked during the meet. For details, call 9246529013.

Chess camps

A2H Chess Academy (Kukatpally) will organise summer camps from April 25 to May 24 at Kennedy High School and IMMS Hall (Erramanzil). For details, call 9866702431.
