BANGALORE: Top leaders of the State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, 85 party legislators and 10 MPs on Wednesday attended a high-level meeting to chalk out a strategy to increase the party's popularity in the State. President of the State unit D.V. Sadananda Gowda told The Hindu that an objective of the meeting was to finalise a strategy to improve the image of the Karnataka Development Forum comprising the BJP and the Janata Dal (Secular). It was also aimed at improving the coordination between the party and the Government, he said. The meeting was held at a resort near Yelahanka on the outskirts of Bangalore. Among those who addressed the meeting were Thavarchand Gehlot, BJP General Secretary in charge of the party affairs in Karnataka; Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, and Water Resources Minister K.S. Eshwarappa. All BJP Ministers except Food and Civil Supplies Minister Govind Karjol, who was away, attended the meeting. The legislators brought to the notice of the Ministers the difficulties that they faced in meeting the demands of the people of their constituencies.
Assurance
Mr. Yediyurappa assured them that he would do his best to protect their interests. He told them they could meet him any time. The party Ministers would conform to a schedule, including during visits to various districts, he said. Mr. Sadananda Gowda said meetings of BJP legislators and MPs would be held frequently to ensure the smooth implementation of programmes and establish good relations with the party's coalition partner.
