Chandigarh: Mukesh Kumar showed on Wednesday why he is the leader on the Amby Valley PGAI Tour Order of Merit when he fired four birdies and an eagle in his last six holes to tie the course record and take a four-shot lead on the second day of the Hero Golf Chandigarh Open. The round of seven-under 65 put the 39-year-old in pole position going into the final two rounds of the Rs. 12 lakh prize money event, the 16th leg of the 2005-06 season.
Uttam second
Overnight joint leader Uttam Singh Mundy added a 70 to his overnight 67 to be placed second at seven-under 137. The other overnight leader Vinod Kumar, despite firing eight birdies, was third at six-under 138. Vijay Kumar shot a solid 66. As many as 62 professionals and three amateurs Rahul Bakshi, Gaganjeet Bhullar and H.S. Kang made the cut, which came at at 8-over par 152. Defending champion Harinder Gupta was tied for 19th position with a level par 144. Mukesh, who started at four-under 68, began his round with a par and a birdie on the second. Soon it was nullified on the fourth when he missed a 10-footer. After a birdie on the fifth, the Mhow-based pro sank a 20 footer downhill putt to save another shot.
Lone blemish
He made the only other blemish on the par-4 12th where he missed a short par putt after being under a tree on his second shot. PTI
