Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh posted record revenue collection of Rs 19,606 crores during the fiscal 2005-06 against a target of Rs 19,440 crores. The revenue realisation of Rs 19,606 crores surpassed last year's collection by Rs 3,728 crores. Terming the record collection as beginning of a new era in the financial health of U.P., Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav said there would be no dearth of funds for development projects. U.P. Government spent Rs. 14,190 crores on development, he added. The Chief Minister claimed the previous government always hankered for more funds, while the present dispensation had strengthened its financial resources by following strict financial discipline. "The Centre has not provided any special package so far to the State." The revenue realisation was 100.9 per cent of the target and showed an increase of 23.5 per cent compared to last year's target. "A collection of Rs. 2,471 crores was achieved under the non-tax revenue head, which was 110 per cent of the target at Rs. 2,247 crores. Compared to last year, it was 22 per cent more." Mr. Yadav said due to the effective strategy adopted by the state government, revenue saving of Rs 1,123 crore was expected in the budgetary estimates of the current financial year, which was going to be possible after a gap of two decades. The Chief Minister said land revenue, trade tax, transport and stamp and registration departments had achieved higher revenue realisation than the targets fixed for them. The trade tax department registered an increase of 27.9 per cent compared to last year. The stamp and registration department had registered an increase of 19.1 per cent, while transport department posted an increase in collection by 14.9 per cent. An amount of Rs. 14,190 crores was spent on development works during the last fiscal, while only Rs. 9,535 crores were spent under the same head during previous year -- an increase of 49 per cent. Mr. Yadav said the annual plan for 2005-06 was Rs 13,500 crore, which was 40 per cent more than the plan outlay of 2004-05. "Yet, the financial target of the plan were cent per cent achieved during 2005-06." "Acknowledging record achievements of the U.P. Government, the Planning Commission has approved Rs. 19,000 crores for the current fiscal, which is 40 per cent more than the previous year's plan size," he informed. -- UNI
