JAIPUR: Activists of the Rajasthan Kisan Seva Samiti Mahasangh have called for measures to protect the food and livelihood security in the upcoming World Trade Organisation (WTO) negotiations while pointing out that "fair trade'' could strengthen the battle against poverty.
Review meeting
Farmers, workers, activists and experts participating in a review meeting for second phase of the "Make Trade Fair'' campaign in the desert State here on Tuesday said the marginalised producers in the agricultural sector should continue their agitation for bringing about a change in the world trade rules to ensure equity in development. The campaign has been launched in Rajasthan by the Centre for Community Economics and Development Consultants' Society (CECOEDECON).
Real difference
The farmers associated with the non-Government organisation have also participated in the activities such as People's Caravan-2004 and Global Week Action to generate awareness on the impact of WTO. The secretary of the Society, Sharad Joshi, said the trade in agriculture could make a real difference to the fight against poverty and called for joint action by farmers and people at large on this front.
