JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has announced the appointment of a State Commission on Farmers to ensure integrated development of agricultural sector and render assistance to farmers in all matters relating to agriculture. Ms. Raje made the announcement in the concluding session of a two-day meeting of the newly- constituted Task Force on agriculture and animal husbandry here on Tuesday. She said the rural areas would be evolved as "centres of development'' to benefit farmers and provide them with new opportunities of livelihood. Ms Raje said the Government would take concerted steps for linking agriculture with modern technology and utilising wasteland after conducting soil health tests. She also laid emphasis on value addition, better marketing and efficient processing of farm produce to augment the sources of income for farmers. Noted agricultural scientist M.S. Swaminathan, who heads the Task Force, asked the experts to submit their recommendations by next month to enable the Government to formulate an action plan that would benefit the farmers during kharif season. The six groups of experts are working in the spheres of land and soil health management, water management, farm technology, processing of agricultural produce and value addition, credit and insurance, and animal husbandry.
