BANGALORE: Nandini Vidyaniketan, Vijayapura, celebrated its annual day recently. The programme began with an invocation song rendered by Swathi and team. Manche Gowda, honorary secretary of Janata Education Society, Bangalore, was the chief guest. He spoke on the role of parents in children's education. He said parents should be aware of their children's progress, and their responsibility did not end at just sending their wards to school. From time to time, parents should speak to their children about their future and provide guidance to them, Mr. Gowda said. K.C. Krishnamani, Chief Manager of State Bank of India, Cauvery Bhavan branch, said that although schools in rural areas lacked infrastructure, they had produced many talented students. School principal Joseph presented the annual report. R. Bachche Gowda, founder president of Nandini Educational Trust, presided over the function. Secretary B. Chetanagowda and administrative officer Erachinnappa were present. A cultural programme was held in the evening.

Mr. Ashwath asked students to become virtuous citizens with the help of the knowledge they acquired. M.S. Thimmappa, former Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, presided over the function. He said the need of the hour was to provide quality education at an affordable cost. Students needed to realise their potential and parents played a vital role in this regard, he said. C.N.
