Construction worker murdered in Yelahanka

BANGALORE: A construction worker was murdered in Bangalore Rural district.

The police said that on Tuesday night, four men stabbed to death Ramanjini (35), a worker, at a construction site near Yelahanka in Chikkajala police station limits.

When six workers were asleep at the construction site at Agrahara Layout, four men came there and asked them for water. After Ramanjini offered them water, they reportedly tried to barge into a shed where construction material was stored.

When Ramanjini challenged the intruders, they stabbed him and ran away. The other workers, who woke up on hearing Ramanjini's screams, rushed him to a hospital. Ramanjini, a native of Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh, was declared brought dead, the police said. The Chikkajala police have registered a case.

In another incident, a man aged 40 was found murdered in Harohalli police station limits in Kanakapura taluk on Wednesday.

Around 10 a.m., passersby noticed the body on Bangalore-Kanakapura Road, off Mudukanapalya, and informed the police.

The assailants had strangled the man with a rope and smashed his head with a boulder, the police said. The Harohalli police have registered a case.

Sentenced

The II Fast Track Court has convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment Karunakara, a pani puri vendor, for murdering Sanjeeva, a moneylender, in Byatarayanapura police station limits.

According to the charge sheet filed by the police in the court, Karunakara, Parashurama and Shanthamma had borrowed Rs. 40,000 from Sanjeeva. As they were unable to repay the loan, Karunukara and Parusharama stabbed Sanjeeva to death on December 11, 1998 at Hosaguddadhahalli.
