Bangalore: Nicaragua is looking for collaborations with Indian companies in the agricultural and energy sectors. It is interested in acquiring technical knowledge, agricultural equipment, pesticides and fertilizers. Addressing an investment forum on Tuesday, organised by the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC), Alejandro Arguello, Nicaraguan Minister of Development, Industry and Trade, said his country would follow the Indian model of growth. Nicaragua needed state-of-the-art technology and machinery to be more competitive, and India could provide them. "We could act as a platform for India to export goods and services to the U.S. The Nicaraguan Government has chalked out plans for a bilateral agreement with the Indian Government," he added. He said Nicaragua's assets were productive labour, strategic location and proximity to the U.S., which made it a profitable business environment. The country had the lowest land prices in Central America. Juan Carlos Pereira, Executive Director of the Nicaraguan National Investment Promotion Agency, said about 70 per cent of the 5.77 million people of his country were below 30 years of age. Addressing the delegation, BCIC vice-president Venkar Kedlaya said information technology and software development had propelled India as an economic powerhouse.
