Children learn the strings of publishing

Kozhikode: As part of a summer vacation initiative for students, the Sunday Theatre here has been conducting a 10- day programme since April 18.

The objective of the programme is to familiarise the participants with the basics of selecting a manuscript, editing it, conceptualising a cover and layout and publishing it before it reaches the reader.

Inaugurating the programme, Balakrishnna Marar of TBS explained to the children how a book is conceptualised, how an idea takes shape from a fantasy before it is published as a book, to reach the hands of readers.

The 20-odd participants will learn about terms such as `royalty,' `copyright,' `copyleft,' `blurb' among others. The children will select 25 poems of Satyachandran Poyyilkave, an amateur poet, who will read out his poems to them. V.R. Sudeesh, Kalpetta Narayanan and Kadija Mumtazl provide the participants the guidance in editing. Each of the 500 copies of the poems being edited and published will have a different cover.
