Pyare Mohan (Hindi) Cast: Vivek Oberoi, Fardeen Khan, Esha Deol and Amrita Rao Director: Indra Kumar The also-rans are up and running - Vivek Oberoi and Fardeen Khan who would never give any numero uno sleepless nights, team up in this solo Hindi film release of the week. Result? A disaster. Yes, this is the season of smiles and laughs, and comedy does appear to be the best medicine. But hang on, deliver it with some panache, some novelty, an iota of credibility, and we will happily queue up. Not the case here though. The laughs are there all right but they all come towards the end, in a long drawn climax that is quite thrilling. Before that, the film is an endless confused yarn of two friends; one cannot see, the other cannot hear. And their girlfriends - Esha Deol and Amrita Rao -- in roles that could have been done by any Seeta, Salma or Suzy. The guys help the girls with their music. Thus starts a trail that sends the cast to Thailand for some convoluted murder mystery before sanity is restored, and the girls hang on to the guys' arms for that happily-ever-after picture. Yawn. Want to watch it? Do so at your own risk.
The scissors?
One word about the Censors though: No, this film does not have the double entendres, which are regarded as par for the course in comedy films these days. The problem lies with the acute lack of sensitivity towards people with special needs. In the name of comic touches directors are being allowed to get away with murder. Pyare Mohan, despite the lovely first name, transmits little love. And has little to recommend to caring viewers.
