`Antara' exhibition opens today

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: "Antara", an exhibition of paintings by Anne Samuel, Lakshmi Priya Daniel and Razia Tony, faculty members of the Department of Fine Arts at Stella Maris College, Chennai, will be held at Lakshana Art Gallery in the city from Saturday.

Ms. Samuel's compositions are meticulously organised and structured with clean metrical waves balancing geometry with organic forms of flora and fauna. Her works seem to create a plethora of dancing forms and landscapes.

Ms. Daniel's dual series talk about life in different tones. She has a grass-mat painting called Panchakanya, depicting the five legendary women — Draupadi, Sita, Mandodari, Ahalya and Tara, — signifying their position as the five animating sources of energy of the cosmos.

Another series is based on the number seven, depicting the Saptapadi, the seven steps taken by a couple during the Hindu marriage ritual.
