Were demanding Rs. 1 crore as protection money from brother of Pappu Yadav, MP

NEW DELHI: Four persons have been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police on charges of making extortion calls to the brother of Member of Parliament Pappu Yadav demanding Rs. 1 crore as protection money.

In the early hours of February 2, Mr. Yadav's brother Jagjit Singh received a call on his mobile phone, in which the caller asked him to look outside the window. Jagjit was shocked to see that his Opel Astra car had been set afire. The caller then asked him to arrange Rs. 1 crore and wait for his next call. Acting on Mr. Yadav's complaint, the police registered a case of extortion bid.

The Special Cell zeroed in on one Vikas Barua, and arrested him for his involvement on February 23. The mobile phone used to make the calls was seized from him. During interrogation, Vikas allegedly disclosed that he and his accomplices, Jaswinder and Sunny Priyadarshi, had conspired to extort the money from Jagjit.
