Power crisis in Capital worsens

Staff Reporter

Power cuts up to 10 hours in several areas

  • Patparganj in East and Prasad Nagar in Central Delhi, the cuts ranged between an hour to two hours
  • In unauthorised colonies such as Vikas Vihar in West Delhi the situation is even worse

NEW DELHI: The power supply situation in the Capital worsened on Friday with several parts of the city such as Rohini and Vasant Kunj experiencing up to 10 hours of cuts during the past 24 hours. Though the supply of power was normal at the Delhi Transmission Company (Transco) end, problems with distribution gave many a sleepless night as the power cuts were frequent in these areas.

"With there being at least five cuts of about an hour each during the night, we were just not able to sleep. As the cut forced the air-conditioner to be switched off, we had to time and again open the doors and windows to avoid the suffocation,'' said Abhay Sood, a resident of Sector 13, Rohini.

For K. Nanda of Sector B, Vasant Kunj too the power cuts have been proving to be a big problem. "All through Thursday we had to contend with the power going off every now and then. There were at least five cuts of which one extended from 2-30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and thereafter too there was another cut for about 45 minutes,'' she rued. In many other parts of the Capital, especially unauthorised colonies such as Vikas Vihar in West Delhi, the situation was even worse with cuts extending up to 12 hours.

However, in other areas such as Patparganj in East Delhi and Prasad Nagar in Central Delhi the cuts ranged between an hour to two hours.
