Aligarh tense
Aligarh:
Tension mounted again in this communally sensitive town after some people threw a bottle of sulphuric acid inside a mosque during evening namaz on Friday, leaving five persons injured.
Security personnel have begun patrolling the streets, just three days after curfew was lifted in riot-hit areas.
Soon after the bottle was thrown inside the mosque at the Abdul Karim crossing around 7.30 p.m., thousands of people gathered on the streets.
Shops downed the shutters as tension prevailed in the area. A first information report was registered, the police said.
Senior administrative and police officials made announcements over the public address system, asking the people to remain calm and assuring them that those behind the acid attack would be arrested shortly. PTI
