ONGOLE : Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has squarely laid the responsibility of completing Gundlakamma project on the shoulders of the district Collector B. Udaya Lakshmi. At an impromptu press conference at Chinarikatla village in Prakasam district on Saturday, newspersons asked the Chief Minister whether he would keep his promise of supplying water to 30,000 acres under Gundlakamma project in the coming kharif season itself. Dr. Reddy turned to the Collector and inquired about the progress. She assured him that the project would be completed in the kharif season. "Okay, if she fails we will hang her," Dr. Reddy said smilingly and left the venue. Earlier, he said that emphasis is laid on mitigating drinking water problem in villages and providing employment to check migrations during Praja Patham programme. Addressing the Chinarikatla villagers in Cumbum constituency in Prakasam district on Saturday, Dr. Reddy exhorted the women self-help groups to utilise the loans properly and repay them promptly so that they could avail of more loans and augment their income. Following good monsoon last year, the ground water table increased considerably and farmers raised crops on larger areas than before. Consequently, the demand for power has increased from 150 million units last year to 170 million units this year. Yet, the Government is making all efforts to meet the demand and protect the rabi crops.
