SHIMLA: The Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti, a voluntary organisation working in the fields of literacy and science popularisation in the hill State, is launching a "Pustak Dastak Abhiyan" on the occasion of World Books Day on Sunday. The organisation has planned to sell books in its door-to-door campaign and would organise book exhibitions in various schools and educational institutions all over the State. The Gyan Vigyan Samiti publishes its own books on science popularisation programmes and on social and civil issues. The organisation, according to its Secretary Satyawan Pundir, has planned to establish People's Libraries in villages and would encourage and inculcate the habit of reading amongst the common masses. It would continue its campaign till the May Day celebrations in the State, he said. "Our campaign would be focused on the `power of a book' and importance of written literature in the age of information revolution, said Samiti activists. "Books are not only sources of information and knowledge but also are instruments of social change'', they said.
