Vijayakant charge against DMK, AIADMK

Staff Reporter

"Never bothered about free rice when in power" "They never bothered about free rice when they were in power"

CHENNAI: Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) president Vijayakant said the AIADMK and the DMK never bothered about `free rice' when they were in power.

In his second day of campaigning in the city, Mr. Vijayakant canvassed at Saidapet in support of the DMDK candidate R. Venugopal. He charged the Dravidian parties with ruling the state for over three decades but failing to live up to public expectations.

"DMK president Karunanidhi has been Chief Minister for four terms. The AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa was voted to power twice. When they were ruling they did not think about reducing the price of rice. But they have announced it just a month before the elections. This clearly proves that they are not serious."

Mr. Vijayakant said his party fielded only young candidates, who would willingly work for the people.

"Ours is a new party with new thoughts. We have fielded energetic youths and I plead to you to encourage us," he said.
