MADURAI: Service tax for telecom services provided to users will be levied at the rate of 12.24 per cent (service tax 12 per cent plus education cess on service tax 2 per cent) instead of 10.2 per cent, as per a Government notification. The revision will come into effect from April 18. Users of all telecom services, including basic telephone, mobile phones, telegrams, telex, fax, calls made from STD, PCOs/VPTs operated by BSNL and private franchisees etc, will have to pay the revised tax, according to a release from General Manager, BSNL.
