BANGALORE: The Bangalore edition of Kannada Prabha has been selected for the annual award (2005) of the Karnataka Media Academy for best front-page design and coverage of zilla and taluk panchayat elections results. Academy Chairman V.N. Subba Rao announced 12 newly instituted awards, including three for TV journalists, on Saturday. Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy will present the awards on May 1. The other award-winners are M.T. Shivakumar, Bellary correspondent of Prajavani, for the best report on "Mining and its impact on agriculture", K.R. Prakash of Samyukta Karnataka for best crime report, D. Garuda of Prajavani for best sports report, Yallaappa Lakshmana Talavara of Belgaum for best rural reporting (published in Vijaya Karnataka), Dinesh Shukla of Gurumitkal, Samyukta Karnataka for best feature story, N. Shashidhar of Ushakirana for best investigative report, S. Radhakrishna of Ushakirana for best news photograph and Ramadhyani of Shimoga for best cartoon. In the TV category, Gulbarga City Channel bagged the prize for best special report on "Aneya Akrosha," Maya Sharma of NDTV for her report on "Changing Bangalore" and C.N. Bhopaiah, newsreader, Udaya TV. The award includes a purse of Rs. 10,000 and a citation.
