EYE-CATCHING METHODS: Members of the CPI (ML) performing a street play in Gulbarga on Sunday as part of a `jatha' demanding reversal of the privatisation and protection of the rights of workers.
GULBARGA: The 10-day awareness jatha organised by the cultural wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Lenin) (CPI-ML) from Bidar to Bangalore to create awareness about the impending dangers in privatisation and globalisation policies pursued by the Government arrived in Gulbarga district on Sunday. The "jatha", which was inaugurated here on Saturday, had conducted cultural programmes and street shows at Naubad, Andur, Hallikhed, Humnabad, Kinni and Kamalapur and reached Gulbarga on Sunday. The cultural troupe of the CPI(ML) staged street shows accompanied by revolutionary songs at the Vallabhbhai Patel Chowk. The team left for Farhatabad and would reach Hattigudur for the night halt before entering Raichur district on Monday. After traversing through the villages and important towns in Raichur, Koppal, Davangere, Chitradurga, and Tumkur, the "jatha" would enter Bangalore on May 1 and present a memorandum to Governor T.N. Chaturvedi. Another troupe of the CPI (ML) had started the jatha from Shimoga and would reach Bangalore on May 1 after covering the South Karnataka and coastal districts. Their main demand included that the State Government should not allow foreign investment in the drinking water projects, and desist from availing loans for development projects from the World Bank and Asian Development Bank.
