HURT SENTIMENTS: Leaders of Dalit organisations staging a `rasta roko' on Gulbarga-Bangalore National Highway near Gulbarga Central Prison on the outskirts of Gulbarga on Sunday in protest against the cancellation of the celebrations of the birth ann iversary of B.R. Ambedkar.
GULBARGA: The controversy over the cancellation of the 115th birth anniversary celebrations of B.R. Ambedkar, scheduled for Sunday at Gulbara Central Prison, was resolved with the intervention of Deputy Commissioner Anjum Parvez and Superintendent of Police K. Ramachandra Rao. The two officials, who visited the spot where the Dalit leaders, led by president of Federation of all the Dalit Organisations Shivaram Moga and the former Gulbarga Development Authority chairman Vittal Doddamani were holding a "rasta roko" on Gulbarga-Bangalore national highway near the prison premises, assuaged the feelings of the Dalit leaders and assured them that the birth anniversary celebrations of Dr. Ambedkar would be held at prison premises on May 3. The Dalit leaders, who were demanding the arrest of Prison Superintendent Lakshminarayan for allegedly insulting Dr. Ambedkar, lift the road blockade after the two officials promised that the issue would be reported to the Government.
