Kollur (Udupi DT.): Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Sunday said that president of the State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party D.V. Sadananda Gowda should stop making irresponsible statements on the appointments to boards and corporations. Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that no appointments had been made. Mr. Sadananda Gowda should not have gone to the press on the issue. He could have clarified the issue with the Janata Dal (Secular). Being the president of the State unit of the BJP it was surprising that Mr. Sadananda Gowda behaved in such as manner. His behaviour was unbecoming to a responsible leader of a national party such as the BJP. The Janata Dal (S) was cooperating with the BJP in every possible way. Even on this issue, the Janata Dal (S) would discuss it with the BJP, he said. Mr. Kumaraswamy, who appeared to be agitated by the statements of Mr. Sadananda Gowda, said: "I do not want to stick to the Chief Minister's chair. I did not have any desire to be Chief Minister. It was thrust on me." On the sick Brahmavar Sugar Factory in Udupi district, the Chief Minister said the factory had been bedevilled with problems for the last so many years. The workers of the factory had given a memorandum to him. He would try to protect the interests of both the employees of the factory and that of the growers, who had to be paid their dues for supplying cane. He would discuss the issue with Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, who also holds the Finance portfolio. On the comment of Congress leader H.K. Patil that the Government had not given proper compensation to farmers while implementing the Bangalore-Mysore corridor project, the Chief Minister said the problems connected to the project could have been solved had the previous Government handled the situation in a proper manner. As regards the decision of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, the Chief Minister said it would be premature for him to comment on it till he got full information on it. But the Government would do everything within its power to protect the interests of farmers.
