Workshop on teaching, learning

Department of Civil Engineering and Department of English, University College of Engineering organised a workshop on teaching and learning practices. Suleiman Siddiqi, Vice-Chancellor, who was the chief guest, underscored the importance of teaching-learning strategies for promotion of excellence. He urged the teachers to get exposure to modern methods and technologies and develop skills for classroom effectiveness and enrichment.

Low cost housing

Department of Civil Engineering, Osmania University College of Engineering organised a workshop on construction technologies for durable low cost housing in collaboration with Disaster Management Infrastructure and Control Society. Prof. Patnayaki, University of Western Australia, was the chief guest.

ANU

The Centre for Distance Education of Acharya Nagarjuna University will offer 30 new courses from the coming academic year, said ANU Vice-Chancellor V. Balamohandas. There are seven undergraduate courses to be offered, six courses at the post-graduate level, five post-graduate diploma, six professional courses under B.Tech; four courses under M.Phil and a certificate course.

The decision regarding two other courses proposed by the advisory committee will be finalised at the Tenth Advisory Committee meeting soon. "The B.Tech courses will help the employed persons to a large extent," said Prof. Balamohandas.

Certificate course in HIV/AIDS and grief counselling will be offered in association with the NRI Hospitals at Chinnakakani near the ANU campus.

SVU

An extension building constructed for the SV University's Virology Department was formally inaugurated and dedicated to the students by Vice-Chancellor S. Jayarama Reddy on the varsity campus on Friday. The building was constructed in a record period of four months at a cost of Rs. 8.90 lakh. Interestingly, the entire cost of the building was met from the funds generated by running the self-supporting course, M.Sc (Microbiology), by the department.

Kakatiya University

Kakatiya University is conducting KUCET06 -- the common entrance tests for admission into MA/MSC/ MCom/MHRM/ MTM/MLISc/ PG diploma in sericulture courses for the academic year 2006-2006 from June 1 to 9, 2006.

The common entrance test is meant for admission to the Colleges under the jurisdictional area of Kakatiya University comprising of Warangal, Karimnagar, Khammam, Adilabad. The last date for submission of application form without late fee is May 10 and with a late fee of Rs. 200 is May 15, 2006.
