JD(S) serves notice on suspended legislators

Special Correspondent

All the eight legislators asked to appear before Disciplinary Committee

  • Eight legislators to decide on their response today
  • B.R. Patil says this is the first official communication from the party after their suspension
  • He says even Assembly Speaker was not informed of their suspension

GULBARGA: The Janata Dal (Secular) has issued show-cause notice to all the eight suspended legislators, including the former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, B.R. Patil, C. Mahadevappa, H.Y. Meti, M. Venkatesh, M. Mahadev, Somashekhar and Krishnamurthy asking them why action should not be taken against them for their continued alleged anti-party activities.

The notice has asked them to appear before the Disciplinary Committee meeting in New Delhi on April 29 in person or submit their explanation in writing to the committee before that date.

Mr. Patil told presspersons that he had received the notice on Saturday and inquiries with other legislators revealed that they had received a similar notice.

The notice had been signed by Disciplinary Committee chairman and general secretary of the party A.K. Agarwal.

The notice said the party had information that they worked against the party's interests in the recent zilla and taluk panchayat elections in the State.

    First communication

Mr. Patil said this was the first official communication the suspended legislators had received from the party and although they came to know about their suspension through press reports, there was no official communication nor the party had informed the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly about their suspension.

He said all the suspended eight legislators would meet under the chairmanship of Mr. Siddaramaiah in Bangalore on Monday and take a decision on the next course of action to the show-cause notice.
