Ready to sort out problems on projects, says Reddy

Karnataka's plan to remove silt from Tungabhadra reservoir gets support

Raichur: Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has said his Government is ready to sort out with Karnataka the problems on irrigation projects. Mr. Reddy was here to attend a private function.

Discussions

Talking to presspersons on Sunday, he said Andhra Pradesh was ready to hold discussions with Karnataka on inter-State irrigation projects in the Krishna basin if the latter showed interest.

On Karnataka's plan to remove silt from the Tungabhadra reservoir with Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy said he was aware of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy's proposal which would help in improving the storage.

He said the implementation of the plan would benefit both the States.

However, there was a need to consult the Tungabhadra Board on the plan. Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy said he would talk to Mr. Kumaraswamy on the issue.

Dues

On Andhra Pradesh clearing the dues to Karnataka for the maintenance of the inter-State Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme irrigation canal, Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy said he was not aware of it. But he promised to look into the issue.

On Karnataka's demand for enhancing the grants by Andhra Pradesh for the construction of bridges to provide access to the islands (in Raichur taluk) in the backwaters of the Jurala Project, Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy said that his Government would look into it.

Problems

To a question on the problems faced by Kannadigas in the border villages of Andhra Pradesh, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister said he was not aware of them.

But he would initiate action to provide infrastructure and supply of Kannada textbooks in all schools in the border villages, Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy said.
