Ramayana Mahasatra concludes

The highlight of the day was the conduct of Sri Rama Maha Pattabhisheka

  • Waters of three seas and 500 rivers were used to perform the pattabhisheka

    SHIMOGA: The colourful 10-day Sri Ramayana Mahasatra came to a close at the Ramachandrapur Math in Hosnagar taluk of Shimoga district on Sunday amid religious gaiety and enthusiasm with over two lakh devotees from all over the State witnessing the event.

    Prominent among those present were Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. The event was held under the leadership of Raghaveshwar Bharathi Swamiji, pontiff of the math.

    The highlight of the concluding day was the conduct of Sri Rama Samrajya Maha Pattabhisheka at the specially arranged `Darbar Hall.'

    The pattabhisheka was performed between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

    The holy waters of the three seas, 500 rivers and several "Pushkaranis" were used to perform the pattabhisheka.

    Raghaveshwar Bharathi Swamiji, Vishwesha Tirtha Swamiji of the Pejawar Math and Rang Priya Deshikendra Swamiji of the Ashtang Yoga Vigyan Mandir of Bangalore poured the holy waters on the idols of Rama and Sita.

    The pontiff of Ramchandrapur Math decorated the idols with the crowns and ornaments.

    Every effort was made to recreate the scene of the Sri Rama Pattabhisheka of the Treta Yuga by ensuring the "presence" of Kousalya, Sumitra and Kaikeyi and others.

    The Chief Minister offered "Kappa Kanike" of the people of Karnataka to the idols Rama and Sita. Raghaveshwara Bharati Swamiji blessed the Chief Minister.

    Cries of "Rama Rama Jai Jai Rama" rent the air at the venue as Raghaveshwar Bharati Swamiji performed the "Maha Mangalarati" to the idols of Rama and Sita.

    The Rama Taraka Yaga which was performed through the Mahasatra came to a close with the pontiff of the math offering the "Poornahuti." It was preceded by the recitation of the Valmiki Ramayana.

    Later, a public function was held in which heads of several religious institutions such as the Pejawar Math seer, the Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues participated.
