The decision is likely to prove a boon for industry in the hill state

SHIMLA: For attracting entrepreneurs and opening new business avenues, the hill state of Himachal is fast improving its road connectivity these days. Coming forward the Union Government has also approved the broadening of various important roads in the industrial areas of the State. It has agreed for the construction of the four laned Zirakpur-Pinjore-Parwanoo-Shimla road, which includes about 13 kms length of Kalka bypass also, under the National Highway Development Programme during the current financial year. This would cost around Rs 1000 crore, according to an official spokesman.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways under the inter-state connectivity programme has directed the states of Punjab and Haryana to construct the Chandigarh-Baddi road at a cost of about Rs 13 crore by October next year. It would prove a boon for the industry in Himachal.

The Government has also decided to widen about 800 kms of roads under the proposed World Bank assistance. Detailed estimates of the roads being prepared by the consultant are Mehatpur-Una-Amb road, Una-Agahar, Barsar-Jahu-Rewalsar-Mandi road, Ghumarwin-Sarkaghat-Jogindernagar road, Theog-Kotkhai-Rohru road and Kumarhatti-Sarahan-Nahan road. The State Government has speeded up the on-going roads construction works and till now 196 projects worth Rs. 264 crore have been sanctioned by NABARD. 807 projects to the tune of Rs. 787 crore have also been sanctioned under the PMGSY.

In order to help rural people and those living in remote areas of the State, efforts are afoot to link all the panchayats by roads during next two years.
