ALAPPUZHA: There has been a two per cent increase in polling in the Assembly elections in the district on Saturday when compared to the 2001 elections. While the percentage of votes polled in the district in the current elections is 76.21, it was 74.09 in 2001. The polling percentage improved in all constituencies except Aroor, Cherthala and Mararikulam. The Alappuzha constituency showed the highest increase in percentage. Here, the percentage of total votes polled on Saturday was 73.98 compared to 65.09 in 2001. The percentage in Aroor is 78.09 compared to 78.86 in 2001. In Cherthala, the percentage fell from 81.65 in 2001 to 79.2. In Mararikulam, the polling percentage fell from 80.86 in 2001 to 78.94. In Ambalappuzha, the percentage went up from 72.23 in 2001 to 73.09. The percentage in Kuttanad is 75.44 compared to 71.02 in 2001. In Haripad, it is 77 compared to 74.7 per cent in 2001. In Kayamkulam, the percentage went up from 74.26 in 2001 to 78.01. In Chengannur, the polling percentage is 72.36, which is marginally higher than 72.21 in 2001. The percentage of polling in Mavelikara is 74.75, which is higher than 71.59 in 2001. In Pandalam, the polling per cent went up from 72.66 in 2001 to 76.64. The poll percentage is likely to go up as the district has 10,404 service voters. The service voters are concentrated at Haripad, Kayamkulam, Mavelikkara, Chengannur and Pandalam.
