New drainage project

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has started work on a Rs 12-crore project to improve the drainage system in East Delhi. Laying the foundation stone for the project on Sunday, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma expressed hope that the work would be completed within a year and that the problems of water stagnation faced by the people of the area would be solved.

The project will benefit the areas of LIG/MIG Flats, Loni Road, Ashok Nagar, Hardevpuri, Mandoli Road, East Durgapuri, Naveen Shahdara, Rohtash Nagar, Kabul Nagar, Subhash Park and Babarpur Road.

EduSat hub to be shifted to Delhi

NEW DELHI: The main hub of EduSat is likely to be shifted from Ahmedabad to Delhi soon. The announcement was made by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Vice-Chancellor H.P. Dikshit at a brainstorming session on student support services organised by the Regional Services Division of the University on Sunday. The move is expected to maximise connectivity with the educational satellite.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dikshit complimented the faculty for maintaining the annual growth of 20 per cent in student enrolment over the past five years. "IGNOU must now concentrate on new methods and practices to handle the growing number of students," he added.

Civil Services Day celebrated

NEW DELHI: A simple function was organised at Delhi Secretariat here this past Friday to celebrate Civil Services Day. Chief Secretary S. Regunathan presented a copy of compilation of Good Administrative Practices to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. Good Governance Practices has been prepared after comprehensive exchange of views by senior civil services officers of the Delhi Government.

Speaking on this occasion, Ms. Dikshit said Delhi has become first State to chalk out a workable action plan relating to good administrative practices, which would revolutionise the work culture in various offices of the Government. The compilation has been prepared keeping in view concerns of citizens, legislators and civil services officers, she added.

Spotlight on issues affecting environment

NEW DELHI: On the occasion of "Earth Day", an exhibition on vital issues affecting the environment was organised at Manav Sthali School here over the weekend. The school also organised a workshop for teachers of different schools of the Capital on environmental education.

The exhibition showcased works of students on environmental themes like global warming, rainwater harvesting and the various threats to endangered flora and fauna.

The teachers' conference focused on methodology and project work that is an integral part of environmental education in schools. Some well-known scientists addressed the students on the occasion.
