Annual day celebrated

Renovated dining hall inaugurated

CHENNAI: The Madras Society for the Protection of Children (MSPC) celebrated its 98th annual day on Friday. The society, based in Washermanpet, offers free residential education to destitute children.

At the inauguration of a renovated dining hall for the children, Madras High Court judge M. Karpagavinayagam urged the students to work hard to be successful. Great leaders such as Lincoln and Churchill, and, closer home, Kamaraj, worked their way up from humble beginnings, he said.

MSPC chairman Justice K. Shanmukham and MSPC vice-president Justice N.V. Balasubramanian presented prizes to children who had excelled in sports and academics.

The students gave a yoga and human pyramid display, and dance performances. The society can be contacted at 044 - 25951521.
