Book on Annamacharya's compositions released

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: M. Balamurali Krishna, musician and composer, released a book titled `Flowers At His Feet,' an insight into Annamacharya's compositions by Pappu Venugopala Rao, at a function organised by the Pappus Academic and Cultural Trust on Friday.

N. Murali, President of The Music Academy, released CDs carrying the same title.

S.P. Sailaja, who earlier sang the invocation song, received the first copy. Mr. Murali said that the study of the works of Annamacharya by Dr. Pappu Venugopala Rao was a penance. The mystic saint was believed to be the manifestation of the sword of the Lord of the Seven Hills, he said.

N. Kumar, Vice-Chairman of The Sanmar Group, said that the part of the book about the different `Sevas' in Tirupati could be written on DVDs and VCDs for the benefit of people who visit the hills.

Dr. Pappu Venugopala Rao, in a presentation, said that the book was based on the 12 lectures on Annamacharya that he delivered between June 2003 and May 2004 at the TTD Information Centre.

Four lectures have been recorded in four CDs with songs of Annamacharya.

The cover design for the book was done by artist Bapu.

Dancer Padma Subrahmanyam presented a review of the 164-page book.

Musician R. Vedavalli reviewed the CDs. M. Kishore Gupta, trustee, Pappus Academic and Cultural Trust, welcomed the gathering.
