Self-immolation bid
Satyavani, a 32-year-old woman from Teynampet, attempted self-immolation near the Nandambakkam bus stop on Sunday morning. The police said she was on her way to the Nandambakkam police station where she was asked to appear for interrogation a second time regarding a kidnapping case involving her brother Ramu. "Satyavani was supposed to meet a woman sub-inspector after her brother was charged with kidnapping a school girl. The girl's father had complained to the Nandambakkam police," a senior police official said. The police said Satyavani resorted to suicide step after the girl's relatives blamed her for Ramu's actions. "The patient is undergoing treatment at Kilpauk Medical College. It is under investigation."
